People going along to the special Water Day at Leicester’s EcoHouse, this Sunday 22 May, will get the chance to sign up to make a small lifestyle change to help the planet.

The Environment Agency will be attending the day and we will be encouraging people to make an online pledge as part of our World Environment Day 2005 campaign.

Sunday 5 June 2005 sees World Environment Day taking place. We are at the forefront of work to try and get people to take care of the environment.

The principal way people can take action to protect the planet is by logging onto www.environment-agency.gov/wed and pledge to one or more of the simple lifestyle changes. Pledges include reusing bags when going shopping, using only the water you need when boiling the kettle and insulating the loft and hot-water tank.

As well as the opportunity to pledge, people will have the chance to talk to our water-saving expert John Ratcliffe to get advice on how they can cut down on water use in the garden and home.

The EcoHouse Water Day will run between 12pm and 4pm. With activities for adults and children and a great chance to win a top of the range, water saving dishwasher!

The event offers information and advice on saving water with free water saving giveaways, discounts on water butts, water games for children, pond dipping and advice on drought resistant gardening.

Thanks to a kind donation from Electrolux, there is also a fantastic opportunity to win a Zanussi-Electrolux Timeline Dishwasher with Jet System, absolutely free!

With scientists predicting that our summers are going to become 5-10% drier in the next century, it’s more important than ever to start conserving our water – and it will save money on water bills too. An average family uses up to 600 litres per day – and one third of that is flushed down the toilet!

Visitors can also enjoy a free tour of the EcoHouse and grab a bargain at the big spring sale of plants that have been organically grown in the EcoHouse garden.

Editors’ notes:

Entry is just £2.50 or £1.50 for concessions
