ASK: SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PREMIER MIKE RANN TO SWITCH TO CLEAN ENERGY

23/08/2005 - Sydney had a clean energy boost on Sunday when a Greenpeace City to Surf team burst onto the track. Along the 14 kilometre route, human wind turbines and strolling solar panels promoted Greenpeace’s clean energy campaign. There was even a polluting coal stack spotted in the crowd. The team, headed by Lonely Planet co-founder Tony Wheeler, raised vital funds for Greenpeace campaigns and had a fun day in the sun.
Says Greenpeace events coordinator, Rob Nicoll, "Greenpeace relies solely on individual donations so fundraising events such as City to Surf are vital for us to continue campaigning for a green and peaceful future.

"We would like to extend a very big thank you to Tony Wheeler and all our sponsored runners and walkers for making the day such a success."

While the run was fun, Greenpeace's message about clean energy solutions is serious. Australia needs to move to clean, renewable energy now to avoid the worst climate change impacts, like worsening drought, bushfires and extreme weather patterns.
