REGISTRATION FOR FALL SNOW GOOSE HUNT AT CAP TOURMENTE NATIONAL WILDLIFE RESERVE

Environmental Panorama

March of 2006

March 13, 2006 - The Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada wishes to inform hunters interested in hunting the Greater Snow Goose next fall at the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve that they can start registering now.
Goose hunting at Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve began in 1972. The goal is to protect the bull rush marsh, which is a source of food for the geese, and also to help thin the snow goose population, considered by scientists to be over-populated.
Registration forms for entering the draw are available by telephone, at
1 (877) 809-0137 or email at the following address:
chasse-hunt.captourmente@ec.gc.ca. Additional information is also available by calling (418) 827-3776, from 8:30 to 14:00, Monday to Friday.
Hunters may register for one of two hunting packages: the traditional hunt or the self-guided hunt, or both. The cost is $8.00 to register for one type of hunt, or $16.00 for both. Registration fees are non-refundable. Only one registration per person is accepted. Hunters have until April 30, 2006, to return their registration form. The successful hunters will be contacted by telephone in mid-May in the same order that their names were drawn.
The traditional hunting package includes horse-drawn transportation for the chosen person and three guests to the hunting area. This package, consists of two half-days for four hunters, costs $790.00, taxes included, with the services of a guide.
The self-guided and traditional hunting packages let the hunter share the experience with three guests. The package consists of two half-days for four hunters at a cost of $430.00, taxes included, but does not include the services of a guide.
All hunters may use the various services available on the reserve: callers, high tide and low-tide caches, transportation of material at the hunting area, and goose storage.
The registration form and additional information about the fall hunt is available on the Canadian Wildlife Service Web site of Environment Canada at the following address:
