Harris has been appointed as Chair of the Environment
Agency Wales’ Fisheries, Ecology and Recreational
Advisory Committee (FERAC) for a three-year term.
The appointment came into effect as of 1 April
2006.
Graeme has worked in both the
public and private sectors of the water industry
in Wales for some 32 years and has had various
roles covering fisheries management, water-based
recreation, environmental protection and wildlife
conservation. He is currently a self employed
fisheries and resource management consultant.
Dr Harris is one of the foremost international
experts on the science and management of sea trout.
Married with two children, he lives in Bwlch,
Powys.
Seven new members have also
joined the Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory
Committee (FERAC) of Environment Agency Wales.
For this year, we have made
changes to the membership of FERAC by increasing
the categories for conservation and recreation
and making them separate. We also propose to hold
meetings in different venues throughout Wales
FERAC is one of the Agency’s
statutory committees and it meets in public four
times a year. The Committee advises and guides
the Agency on its fisheries, conservation, recreation
and navigation work.
New Recreation Appointments:
• Bob Lowe recently retired
as Head of Recreation Access for the Countryside
Council for Wales. Bob is also a member of the
Sports Council for Wales and currently chairs
the Welsh Yachting Association. Bob lives in the
Gwynedd area of North Wales.
• Christopher Wright lives in
Caernarfon and is currently employed as Operations
Manager for Snowdonia-Active developing outdoor
recreation in North West Wales.
New Conservation Appointment:
• Pamela Barnes, from Keep Wales
Tidy works closely with voluntary sector organisations
as a Project Manager for the Clean Rivers Project.
New Fisheries Appointments:
• Peter Heckler lives in Llanstephan
and is appointed as a game fisheries member. Peter
is a member of the Welsh Salmon & Trout Association’s
Conservation Committee and the Carmarthenshire
Fisherman’s Federation he has previously been
heavily involved in wildlife conservation work.
Martin Powell, from Flintshire,
is currently chairman of the Welsh Federation
of Coarse Anglers. Martin also chairs the Dee
Anglers & Buckley Angling Association and
is appointed as a coarse fisheries member.
New Academic/Professional Appointment:
• Liz Dutch from Carmarthenshire
has a background of experience in planning matters
and has worked closely with voluntary bodies on
wildlife and environmental issues in South West
Wales.
New Netting Appointment:
• Christopher Jones, lives in
Ferryside. Chris is a licensed seine netsman on
the River Tywi and is currently chair of the Nets
Association.
