- Mr David Elliott, of Wednesfield, has been appointed
to the Environment Agency’s Midlands Regional
Environmental Protection Advisory Committee (REPAC).
Mr Elliott gained an honours
degree in Manufacturing Studies and Materials
Technology at Wolverhampton University and is
a Member of the Institute of Metal Finishing.
He also holds Associate Membership of the Institute
of Industrial Managers.
He has a keen interest in the
impact of industry on the process of climate change
and expert knowledge of climate change agreements
and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
His career encompasses a number
of appointments in the metal finishing and plastics
industries, and he has been Chief Executive of
the Surface Engineering Association, Birmingham,
since 2003.
He has served on a number of
Government and European Commission working groups
and committees, including the European Committee
for Surface Treatment, and is a Director of the
charitable Institute of Metal Finishing.
He is also a member of the Surface
Engineering Division Board of the Institute of
Material, Minerals and Mining where he facilitates
links with academic bodies such as universities.
Speaking of his new appointment,
Mr Elliott says: "Through my work I have
forged close links with the Environment Agency
and I am looking forward to serving on REPAC.
"I feel that, with my wide
background in environmental issues, I can make
a positive contribution to the work of the committee.
" I hope to be able to
help the Environment Agency to develop and implement
policies that provide a high degree of protection
to the environment in the most cost-effective
manner possible."

REPAC
REPAC (Regional Environmental
Protection Advisory Committee) is an advisory
committee which specifically concentrates on pollution
control, water resources, air quality, control
of complex industrial processes and disposal of
controlled waste and makes recommendations on
the following areas:
operational performance issues
of concern in the region
issues of concern in the region
the implications of national
policy proposals.
The committee is made up of
a Chairman appointed by the Secretary of State
for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the
Chairmen of RFDC and RFERAC and eighteen other
members who represent the following interests:
Regulated industries
Land and air
Conservation
Local Government
The committee meets quarterly.
Members of the public and press are welcome to
attend as non-participatory observers. A full
