Agency will be encouraging people to sign up to
the new Floodline Warnings Direct service by visiting
to up to 900 properties in Shrewsbury which are
at risk of flooding from the River Severn.
Businesses and households which
join Floodline Warnings Direct will receive free
advanced warning of flooding from our flood warning
centre in Shrewsbury. The warning will be sent
directly to residents by telephone, mobile phone,
fax or pager, rather than by flood wardens who
have given flood warnings in the past.
Flood Incident Management officers
use weather forecasts and information from our
extensive river flow measuring network to constantly
monitor what is happening on the river system
and to issue warnings and erect flood defences
when necessary. We aim to give a minimum of two
hours warning of potential flooding.
This scheme is part of our efforts
to enhance our flood warning service to directly
benefit people who are at risk from flooding by
providing an early warning service.

that residents and businesses sign up to this
service. It is a free service. It will give the
public time to take action to reduce the impacts
of flooding on their property and possessions."
The Upper Severn Flood
Incident Management team will be visiting homes
and businesses in the area during the next week
