scientist Finn Palmgren, Danish National
Environmental Research Institute (NERI),
University of Aarhus , has been awarded
the Aerosologist Award 2007 by the Nordic
Society for Aerosol Research, NOSA.
The award was presented at the NOSA annual
symposium in Danish town Helsinore November
8-9th.
Finn Palmgren received his Ph.D. from the
Technical University of Denmark in 1970
and is now head of section at the Department
of Atmospheric Environment at NERI.
He is an expert within air quality and
monitoring of air pollutants with special
focus on particles. In addition to the Danish
monitoring programmes he has attended projects
in Europe, Asia and Africa . The work of
Finn Palmgren is of great importance to
"the man in the street", who is
exposed to traffic related pollutants. Finn
Palmgren has certainly put his fingerprint
on the environmental agenda in the Nordic
countries and in Europe as such.
Aerosols are airborne natural or human
made particles (less than one micron. e.g.
one millionth of a meter) like soot, droplets
and dust.
The Nordic Society for Aerosol Research
(NOSA) was founded in 1978 in Stockholm
and brings together two hundred aerosol-scientists
primarily from the Nordic countries. NOSA’s
aim is to strengthen the Nordic cooperation
on aerosol-research, disseminate the results
of Nordic aerosol research to colleagues
as well as to the public and policy makers
and encourage a multi-disciplinary dialogue.

Triclosan, Resorcinol and m-Cresol found
in the Nordic environment

A Nordic screening study has in several
cases found that resorcinol, triclosan and
m-cresol can be found in aquatic recipients
close to leachate water from landfills or
emissions from point sources like sewage
treatment plants and industry. Bronopol,
which was also included in the study, was
not found at levels above the detection
limits.
