Izabella Teixeira, Minister of the Environment of Brazil, and Freundel Stuart, Prime Minister of Barbados, have accepted the UN Secretary-General's invitation to join the Global Sustainability Panel. The new members are expected to participate in the upcoming meeting of the GSP in Cape Town, South Africa (24-25 February 2011).

Created in August 2010, the Panel brings together renowned world figures to formulate a new blueprint for a sustainable future on a planet under increasing stress resulting from human activities.

The GSP will issue its final report by the end of 2011. Its inputs will feed into inter-governmental processes, including preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio 2012), and the annual meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Panel is supported by a small secretariat within the Secretary-General's office in New York (USA).
