03/03/2005 - Businesses
operating on the Langthwaite Industrial Estate
in South Kirkby will this week be offered
free advice on how to cut down on pollution.
From Monday (28FEB) through to Thursday (03MAR),
Environment Agency officers will be visiting
all 60 companies based on the Estate offering
a range of support and advice, including how
to store raw materials and waste, plus assisting
with pollution problems caused by wrong connections
in the sewerage system.
They’ll also be explaining why it’s important
not to burn rubbish, fly-tip or cause pollution
that may run off into local water courses,
besides providing tips on how to cut down
on waste.
Environment Officer Matt Womersley says,
"We’ve written to every company based
on the Estate, letting them know that we’ll
be going door to door providing support and
advice and answering any questions they have
about pollution and how to deal with waste.
"New legislation will also be coming
in later this year which will see most companies
producing hazardous waste having to register
with the Environment Agency.
"It’s important that businesses know
about this, and are able to talk with us about
how it might affect them."
