- Over the coming months, the Environment Agency will
be giving young people from the Cannock and Rugleley areas
the chance to have a go at one of Britain’s most popular
sport – angling.
We will be running free taster-sessions
at Carneys Pool near Wolasley Bridge on 12 November 2005
and at Horns Pool near Slitting Mill on 3 December 2005.
There will be two sessions a day,
running from 09:30-12:30 and 13:00 – 15:00. The sessions
will be led by coaches we have trained over the summer.
Those attending the course will learn
about the basics of angling, such as when and where to
fish and how to bait and cast a rod, as well as fish welfare
and river safety. All the equipment needed will be provided
on the day.
People aged 12-16 are welcome to contact
the Environment Agency to get on the course. They will
need to call Rod McGregor on 01543 405 040. Places are
limited and those wishing to attend will need to supply
their name, address, age and a contact number. They will
be sent a parental approval form which must be filled
in and returned before the course starts.
Speaking about the training session,
Tim Jacklin, Fisheries and Recreation Team Leader, says:
‘Angling is a sport enjoyed by people of all ages up and
down the country. The Midlands is a great place to fish,
with its rivers, lakes and canals, and we work to protect
and enhance fisheries throughout the region.
‘These sessions will give attendees
a basic understanding of how to get the most out of angling,
starting them of on what is often a lifetime’s hobby.
It’s important to point out that these sessions, and others
like them, are made possible by funds provided by anglers
buying their fishing licence.’ |
