- The new chairman of the Regional Fisheries, Ecology and
Recreation Advisory Committee (RFERAC) has pledged to continue
the committee’s good work and build a stronger link between
environmental improvements and urban and rural regeneration.
A number of independent committees,
including RFERAC, advise the Environment Agency about
the local focus of its work and provide a two-way communication
between them and the public. This committee covers the
Yorkshire and North East government office regions.
A specialist in the environment and
rural affairs, David Stewart will chair his first meeting
of the committee in York on 26 October 2005.
"I want to build on the progress
the committee has already made and particularly look at
what opportunities there may be to link up with other
organisations to help make the most of environmental opportunities.
"I’m sure also that we could
make more of urban and rural regeneration, using environmental
projects as the catalyst, so I hope the committee will
be able to contribute to this valuable change.
"In particular I want to make
the most of water-based recreation in this area and encourage
even wider use of our rich waterways and lakes."
Born and brought up in Dartmouth,
Devon, David now lives with his wife in Allendale, Northumberland.
He has two daughters and one grandchild.
David will chair the committee for
three years, having been appointed by the Fisheries Minister
Ben Bradshaw in July this year. |
