- A dozen volunteers from Environment Agency Wales’
South East Area offices in St Mellons, Cardiff
removed litter from the area in and around Cath
Cobb Wood near the Tesco store on Friday July
30th.
In just two hours the volunteers
had collected 30 large bags of rubbish, a shopping
trolley, umbrellas, a bicycle and parts of a motorcycle.
They also cleared branches and rubbish from the
brook which runs through the wood, to improve
its flow and reduce the chances of flooding.
The event was organised in conjunction
with Keep Wales Tidy, who provided the equipment.
Under the banner ‘Our Country – Our Problem’ 50,000
volunteers were expected to take part in events
for Tidy Wales Week last week.
Christian Servini, an External
Relations Officer with Environment Agency Wales
said: ‘Our local environment is important to us.
Everyone taking part was a volunteer. It was good
to get hands-on and to do our bit to improve the
appearance of the area.’
