15-Sep-2006
- The Environment Agency has declared 18-22 September
2006 to be Diversity Week to raise diversity awareness
across the business and to show how diversity
is relevant to every aspect of our work.
The theme of the week is "think
again" encouraging employees to recognise
the value of working in an environment where differences
are appreciated and encouraged.
In Midlands region a whole range
of activities will be staged for employees, from
multi-cultural food tastings; a quiz on religion;
through to lunch-time talks on age discrimination
legislation, Aspergers Syndrome and training disabled
athletes. The events are designed to make everyone
aware of the wide range of issues to be taken
into account in day to day work to ensure that
diversity issues are sensitively addressed.
Toby Willison, acting Midlands
Regional Director based in Solihull said: "I
am sure the planned events will be great fun but
they have a serious purpose. I am keen that we
all learn from them."
"The Midlands is a particularly
diverse region and it is vital that our employees
reflect the communities we serve. Each of our
offices has an action plan, which sets out ideas
and targets for how we can increase the diversity
of our workforce. This is a great place to work
and I want people from all walks of life and representing
all our communities to feel comfortable working
with us."
