announced funding from the EcoAction Community
Funding Program for a new environmental
project in Bruce County, Ontario. The Pine
River Watershed Initiative Network will
receive $71,394 in federal funding over
three years to improve water quality by
restoring and protecting riparian areas.
“Our government is committed
to supporting groups that take action to
address the environmental priorities of
their community,” said MP Lobb. “The Pine
River Watershed Initiative Network is dedicated
to raising awareness and working towards
clean water and a healthy ecosystem in the
Pine River area.”
“Our government is taking
real action to address the environmental
priorities of Canadians and ensure we have
clean air, clean water, and biologically
diverse land for generations to come,” said
Minister Kent. “EcoAction Community Funding
supports community groups across the country
willing to take concrete action through
on-the-ground environmental projects. We
are proud to partner with these organizations
that are committed to conserving Canada’s
natural legacy.”
The goal of this project
is to restore, improve and protect water
quality within the Pine River Watershed.
To improve poor nearshore water quality
conditions, more than 28,000 trees will
be planted and cattle exclusion fencing
will be installed. These activities will
contribute towards restoring 5 hectares
of shoreline and 15 hectares of habitat.
“The Pine River Watershed
Initiative Network (PRWIN) is thrilled to
have received funding through Environment
Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program.
This funding will support PRWIN in our work
to restore clean water and a healthy ecosystem
to the Pine River Watershed, by implementing
several ?on-the-ground’ reforestation projects,”
said Adrienne Mason, Projects Coordinator,
PRWIN.
The EcoAction Community
Funding Program supports projects that rehabilitate,
protect or enhance the natural environment,
and builds the capacity of communities and
individuals to ensure future protection.
This year, the Government of Canada is providing
over $4 million for over 100 new projects
